In this course, we take a closer look at the role that gamification plays in the world around us, how game theory motivates and influences our actions, and how you can use gamification and experience design in your change-making practice.
Develop an understanding of gamification and game theory in action
Learn to dissect and reorient game mechanics and mechanisms within real world environments.
Gain understanding of the interconnectedness of experience design, social constructionism, motivators, and problem arenas
Explore what motivates your actions in the world, and how to use these new insights to employ tactics and tools that stimulate change
Develop confidence in using gamification to design your own engaging experiences in the problem arena of your choice.
Learn how to use gamification systemically to stage creative interventions that leverage positive change.
This course looks at change making through the use of Gamification (the use of game mechanics in non-gaming environments) and Game Theory (the economic analysis of how people strategize to maximize their effectiveness in a given situation). Designed to help you wrap head around the ways in which humans use strategies and play to maximize the effectiveness of their experiences in the world, this class explores intrinsic motivators such as pleasure, success, reward, competition, and challenge. After gaining an understanding of motivators and mechanics, you will learn how to dissect and adapt the mechanics of successful gamified experiences, and how to design your own cerebrally activating experiences that can be leveraged to effect social and behavioral change.
"I never truly understood the power of gamification before going to the Unschool. Now I see that it can underpin all the elements required for social change to happen. I am hungry to learn more and put it into action." --- Esther Whitehead
