THE FAQS

  • Can I sign up for any course or are there pre-requisites for some of them?

Our individual online courses can be taken in any order and without prior knowledge of the subject area. That said, we do recommend that the Disruptive Design Methodology courses are taken in sequence (just follow the numbers from 1-12!). Our knowledge set has a deliberate design that builds upon earlier learning, so it’s beneficial to take advantage of the layering we provide.

  • What about the Certification tracks?

We recommend that if you sign up for the Educator track, you will have 5 years experience in your field, 50 hours of facilitation experience, and will attend or have attended one of our face to face programs. There are no prerequisites for UnMasters, although it is understood that you are a professional working in your field (either looking to continue or swap to another). For Practitioner, there are no prerequisites. Check each certification page for track specific FAQs.

  • What are the requirements to be certified?

Each track requires a set number of online learning, challenges to be completed (along with a final challenge), a completed process journal, a mentorship for Educator and UnMasters tracks, and a set number of community activation points. All tracks require a final certification live presentation for certification, and the Educator track requires annual renewal. Check the certification page on the website for the checklist of requirements. Once you are signed up for a track, you will be prompted along the way to complete each step. Process Journal: Trackers will document their learning in a Process Journal, an important part of developing a reflective practice and being able to document what you’ve learned. Most of this is about being able to figure out what you’ve learned, need to learn, and take action on in order to make positive change! Community Activation Points: Collect points within your community, workplace, school, society, and the UnSchool community. You can also collect points by volunteering on the farm, in other programs, by volunteering within the UnSchool community, peer mentoring, and by actually taking action and doing initiatives in your community. A lot of the learning challenges are designed to set learners up to actually go and take action (our core goal is to get people to do things to affect positive change!). Points required for each of the Certification tracks are 100 points for Practitioner, 150 for UnMasters, 200 for Educator. The goal with the points system is to encourage learners to start to apply the things you’re learning, test, iterate and experiment, and to start to activate your agency as a change maker (all three tracks are trying to support more creative change makers in the world!).

  • What if I need help during a course? Is there someone I can talk to or do you offer any office hours or discussion sessions?

Contact us via email at [email protected] with any questions. You can also sign up for office hours to video call with an UnSchool team member or for a mentor session to get more guided consultation.

  • How long to I have access to my course or toolkit?

Depending on the course, you will have access to it from 30 days to 15 months, from the time of purchase. Toolkits with downloadable resources are available for 25 days, so make sure to download the materials when you make your purchase. Most single classes have 90-day access and the certification tracks are longer, depending on the track. We totally understand that sometimes life and work can intervene in your learning plans. So if you need more time, just pop us an email at [email protected].

  • What if the course I purchased and enrolled in is not the right one for me?

Please contact us at [email protected] so we can help you find the one that you're looking for! Please review the terms and conditions (link in the footer) for full payment and refund policies.

  • What’s the difference between taking an individual class, the Disruptive Design Method Masterclass, and the Certification tracks?

Individual classes are generally offered in 5 sections. They cover 1 hour of content, and include mini learning challenges. They are great for learning specific topics and getting introduced to the Disruptive Design Method, or you can just jump right into the Disruptive Design Masterclass, which includes all 12 of the core DDM classes. The Certification tracks offer content delivered to you every 30 days. The Practitioner track is for those looking to include the learned skills into their practice. Unmasters is perfect for career changers or those working to facilitate change within their organizations, and the Educator track is for those who have already established their career, have done projects in creative change, and are looking to expand their facilitation skills. All three tracks include the handbooks and the Disruptive Design Method Masterclass, designed into the course with additional unique content.
